Here's what we collect, why, and how to get rid of it. No fine print, no fifteen-page document, no clauses that exist to confuse you. See also our terms.
When you set up a fanbase, we collect your name, email, the team and metro you follow, and the avatar you pick. Setting a gameday adds the game, the spots you name, and who says they're in. A guest who joins without an account gives us a name, plus which page sent them. Nothing more. That record stays with the gameday; email hello@areafans.com if you'd like it gone, and we'll handle it by hand.
A private spot never reaches a map. Home is stored as a category, not an address: there's no field in our database for where you live.
If you asked us to email you when the app lands, we keep that email on a list until we've told you. Nothing else rides along.
We use it to run the gameday: sending invites, showing who's in, sending kickoff reminders, and building an honest read on where a team's fans actually show up over time. Location is only asked for when you open a feature that needs it. Never up front, and never in the background.
Cookies keep you signed in, and remember which gamedays you've joined as a guest. No ad tracking.
We use PostHog to see which pages and features actually get used, so we can fix what's broken and skip what isn't. It's product analytics, not ad tracking: we don't sell what it tells us, and we don't buy audiences with it.
We use Resend to send account codes, invites, and gameday updates. They handle delivery on our behalf; your email doesn't go anywhere else because of it.
We don't sell your data. We don't run ads against it. We don't hand it to anyone outside the vendors above who help us run the product. And access to your private details is enforced by the database itself, not by us promising to be careful.
One thing we do keep: honest aggregate counts. How many fans of a team set gamedays in a metro, which bars they actually show up to. Those numbers describe crowds, never you, and they're the read on fandom we may share with venues and partners. Nothing in them identifies you.
Areafans is for fans 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect anything from anyone younger. If that's happened, email us and we'll delete it.
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion: email hello@areafans.com. California fans: we don't sell or share personal information as the CCPA defines those terms.
Email hello@areafans.com and we'll delete your account and its data. We handle deletion requests by hand right now, so it might take a few days.
Deleted data can linger in encrypted backups for a short while before those expire too.
